Packing your hospital bag
What you really need for the birth
Packing the hospital bag is a special moment for many parents-to-be – and often an uncertain one. What do I really need? What can I leave out? The important thing is this: you do not have to be perfectly prepared. Most things can be sorted out on the spot or brought in later.
For the birth itself I recommend comfortable clothes you feel at ease in, warm socks, and something to drink along with small snacks. Things that comfort you and give you a sense of security – music, your own pillow, or personal keepsakes – can help a great deal too.
For the time after the birth you mainly need practical clothing, nursing bras or comfortable tops, and toiletries. For your baby, a few things are enough to begin with: clothes for the journey home, a blanket, and an infant car seat, which is required for the drive.
Less is often more. Focus on the essentials – everything else will fall into place. If you feel unsure, I am happy to help you prepare.
