Katrin Dettmer

I knew early on that I wanted to become a midwife. Medicine was talked about a lot at home – that shaped me and sparked my curiosity. I made that wish come true by training at Würzburg University Hospital. After several years working on the labour ward, I made a deliberate decision to specialise in antenatal care and postnatal care – supporting families before and after the birth is what I care about most.

I have been working as a midwife for more than 15 years, and since 2017 exclusively as an independent midwife in Frankfurt-Sachsenhausen and Neu-Isenburg. My focus is aftercare: I look after you and your baby during the postnatal weeks, support you with breastfeeding, and am there for you whenever you have questions or feel unsure. In addition, I offer acupuncture, K-Taping, aromatherapy and low-level laser therapy.

It matters to me that you feel in good hands – professionally and as a person. I explain honestly what I see, I listen when you are worried, and I celebrate with you when everything is going well. As a mother of two, I also know from my own experience how this special time feels.

A word about language: I look after families in English, and I should be honest that my English is solid everyday English rather than fluent. Sometimes we will need a moment to find the right word, and for a medical term I may look it up. That has never got in the way of good care – and I would much rather take that moment than have you go through this time without understanding what is being said.
